Moderator: Not sure where to post this so I am making my best guess that it should be here. If you need to move it please do so. Thanks. Making my annual trip to Argentina in May to shoot pigeons and doves. The outfitter has become a personal friend, and he is planning for the possible shortage of shotshells so he is looking in to reloading. I am an active reloader so I would like to bring home some once fired hulls to see how they would reload on my Spolar. Obviously I do not want to get sideways with any of the powers that be when I return. I know from other trips to Africa that I can take a certain amount of live ammo which I always took in a locked Pelican case in my checked bag. If I put the hulls in that case in my checked bag am I likely to be OK? Can I put them in my Tuffpak (I always take my own shotguns) since they are fired cases? Any advice would be appreciated. I have domestically thrown my empty shotshell hulls into my checked bag with no concerns. Internationally, empty brass cases I have had no issues with bringing back the same number I came in with. Ditto for shotshells from Cameroon. If you get on the plane with less than 5KG and they are in a hard case that is locked (ie treat them like as it was live ammo) then I doubt you will get any static as long as you are also with the same gauge gun. I would not try it if you are not flying with a gun or the ammo doesn’t match the gun. The rules for munitions import are so screwy that the customs folks would be unlikely to know the minutiae. While you might get away with it, you might not as well. Common sense won’t apply here.

you can bring spent hulls in your checked bag home. Doesn't matter if your traveling with gun or not or what gauge they are.
