Where Butterballs Rule !!!
Buffleheads are a lot of fun on big water...make for beautiful mounts.

Back in the market hunting days they were called "Butterballs"...research into this particular name has turned out many interesting stories. If you have a butterball story please share Smiler

Another name was "Buffalo head." Saw a lot of them in Boston Harbor recently, mostly right off the shore along sandy islands. Didn't have any where we hunted sea ducks. We have fair numbers of them here in TN, mostly on our large lakes. Our smallest diver and a nice mount. Smiler

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Awesome little birds. Some guys thumb their nose at them but I don't understand why.

They decoy very very well, offer a challenging target on the wing, and they taste great! What more do you want from a duck!?!?

Yes, taste great. My youngest recently cooked up a bunch with his recipe for the boys at duck camp and they all raved about it. I fear their numbers will be lower next season because of it!!
