Following the thread Collector opened about his chachalaca, let´s try to talk a bit about this magnificent south american upland game bird, the perdiz. Within my personal experience, I believe it´s one of the most challenging birds to hunt, especially on the dog´s side. Very quick, runs a lot, excellent hearing and wind sense, it doesnt take cover easily. The dog must very smart to make some pressure and try to get closer than usual on other upland game, or else the Perdiz just keeps on running. This is a small compilation I´ve made of my own dogs. The first and last video are red tinamous. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg1oDBdJ9mI So you can see the distance took the dog since he first scented the tinamou untill he got it to cover and finally flush. This is absolutely normal with perdiz ! I also pen raise them for trainning purpouse, and repopulation also. They need very big areas of pasture to create a normal and healthy population, and usually the places I train my pups are low on them. As the shooting goes, nothing very speciall about them. Not as slow as pheasant, in fact, they a little bit faster than most upland birds, and they fly long. Most of the time the hunter lost track of them in the fly. But, not a problem in the shooting moment. I´ll be glad to hear other members experiences with it. | ||
