I traded one of my friends some .223 brass for some boxes of shotgun shells that he loaded up as per my menu.

1 1/2 oz. of a mixture of #4 & #6. Death in the long stalks!!!!!!!

This is the right sort of thing.

I prefer more open chokes with an ounce of sixes for most work, experienced friends swear by a little more in fives for the high birds.

For me it is my 12-gauge percusion double with 1-1/8 ounce of #5-1/2 nickel-plated shot over 3 drams of black powder, or my 16-gauge L.C. Smith Ideal Grade and Fiochi #5 Golden Pheasants.
