Scott KingThanks for sending them back my way fellas!
We're melting our snow very quickly and the waterfowl you sent back to me are appreciating it. FWIW, I cleaned and ate 6 duck and three goose gizzards today and was interested to find nothing but gravel in any of them. Interesting that upon returning to the nesting grounds after traveling all that way food is hard to come by.
Babe and I hunted Thursday and Saturday morning with fair results. My shooting was a little off, I believe I was leading too much. Babe has had a long lethargic winter inside and is showing it in her physical conditioning. Babe is rock solid steady to shot and made some good retrieves but we did loose one bird to the tide in the bay.
Ptarmigan season is long closed but their neat to see and their call is unique and entertaining. I'd like to hunt them over Babe as a flushing dog in the fall but I have no convienient local location with reasonable bird concentrations.
As usual all were cleaned and stored for consumption. I really value this hunt since it allows the dog and I to tune up a little after a cold winter and the wife and I enjoy eating the waterfowl.

NortonCongrats on the haul. I'm envious of anyone that has two waterfowl seasons.

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. Baloney! You'd be out more than most I suspect!
A picture of the birds on the bench before cleaning and you can see the difference in breast coloration on the 'specks.
A picture from spring of '10.
Its a pretty good chance the wife and I won't make it down the coast this springfor camping and waterfowling but we'll still give it an honest effort 'round here.

Scott KingYesterday found Reese, his Dad, Babe and I back out on the grass flats hunting.
Babe is so to speak warmed up and I've finally foundmy shooting groove. I went thru about half a box of shells knowing I was leading too much before I convinced my arms and hands to cooperate and then used the last half a box to almost not miss. Birds were working close and I didn't try for a shot over thirty yards or so.
We tried to get Reese to shoot the 20ga but he's not ready he thinks so thats fine of course.
Babe retrieved 25 sprig and two lesser canada's. None of us wanted to carry anymore back home. I/ we should have had about half a dozen more geese but I was shooting poorly so,.....
Work will mostly keep me busy this week but This next weekend we're supposed to take Reese and another young fellow out to try again.
Bubba: Anyway, like I was sayin', duck is the fruit of the sky. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, duck-kabobs, duck creole, duck gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple duck, lemon duck, coconut duck, pepper duck, duck soup, duck stew, duck salad, duck and potatoes, duck burger, duck sandwich. That- that's about it.

Good shooting!

Went to a dear friends 62n'd birthday party yesterday.
I called and asked what ice cream was his favorite and his missus emphatically said her favorite is sherbert.....................
K.
I brought a couple of baked sprig, sweet hot mustard and the duck was cold and sliced. Yeah, I brought the sherbert too and a card. She ate every last morsel of the duck and kept the mustard but did send me home with the suggestion that I get right after baking her some more sprig.
Gentlemen,.................choose carefully, cautiously and infrequently.
