Here are some of the Perdiz hunting pics from our July 2013 trip to Santa Fe province in Argentina.

Perdiz do not have much of a tail, they do most of their steering with their wings. They are usually hunted in cow pastures, cows stir up the insects while grazing, and Perdiz are usually not far behind the cows. Perdiz belong to the "Tinamou" group, there are 41 species total, and 15 of them are found in Argentina. The one in the pics below are all Spotted Tinamou (Nothura maculosa).

Very sporty bird if you enjoy upland shooting over dogs. Open chokes like Skeet of IC (Improved Cylinder) with light 8 shot is all you need in 20 gauge or 12 gauge. A very very good shot can get away with 28 gauge as well, it would be challenging though I have never hunted them with a 28 gauge.

Man oh man.....no shortage of anything down there, huh?

Those are seriously good eating.

Beautifull ,common partriges is my family hunting tradition .
We hunt red wings and montaraz partriges too .
The meat is delicious .

One afternoon we went fishing. Really large Dorado which are usually caught with fly-fishing gear move to deeper waters during colder months. We ended up with a bunch of small Dorado and some Piranha. All fish are catch and release.

It was pretty cold on the water...had to bundle up.

I have hunted Red-winged Tinamou in the past. Here is a monster I got:



But on this particular trip we knew that we were only going to see Spotted Tinamou. They have a place but it required a longer drive which would have had both:
- Colorada a.k.a. Red-winged Tinamou (Rhynchotus rufescens)
- Montaraz a.k.a. Brushland Tinamou (Nothoprocta cinerascens)


They were expecting rain in that far off area on that day, so we decided to play it safe and went close by for Spotted.

Thats a huge one, collector !

There are several species of Spotted, I´ll try to find some info and post here later on.

Thanks for sharing the Tinamou chart, I would love to hunt #8 Dwarf Tinamou that has got to be the coolest of them all.

I hunted a few Tinamou species in the highlands of Peru a little while ago, will dig out those pictures.

There´s a lot more of Tinamous (Tinamidae), great part of them is hunted with calls. This kind of hunting is not allowed anymore in Brasil, but was very traditional and classy. My grandfather was a heck of a caller back in the days. The toughest (and biggest) of them all is "tinamus solitarius" .

In the pic is my new buddy. The old one passed away last october.
