Ah, Bobby, good that you narrowed it down! I've not lost a turkey because of a non cammo gun, nor had better luck with one, so I don't know the answer for that one. I think they are keen of eyesight, but like most creatures are more attuned to movement than pattern. Too, if a turkey is being shy I think the mere change in profile of the scenery will spook them, regardless of cammo. I've capped a few wearing just jeans and a sweatshirt. In a nutshell, I think being stealthy when moving is more important. I do know you can buy a roll of cammo tape that will come off without leaving residue for about a buck three-ninety-eight, so make your own call there. As to the chambering, I will no doubt be branded a heretic for saying this but I see no worth in either the 3" or 3.5" chamber, particularly the latter. I haven't met a turkey yet that a 2-3/4" load of 4's or 5's won't drop inside of 30 yards. JMO, but pattern quality is more important than just vomiting massive amounts of lead(or bismuth). I don't waterfowl hunt so can't comment on that aspect of it. A neighbor has a Benelli 12 w/ 3.5" chamber however, and as hard headed as he is, he can't take more than a few of them before saying "friggit" and dropping back to more mundane loads. I've not done the calculations but would guess a 3.5" 12 would generate recoil approaching that of many elephant cartridges. If not, it's a leg up on whatever is running in second place. | ||
