Scott KingSwans and ducks in Portage Creek Alaska.
Well south west Alaska that is. Along the Nushagak River.
My wife and I spent the weekend up the Nushagak River hunting Swans and ducks. In Unit 17 we're given a tag that allows three swans per season and 10 duck per day, regular season.
Babe is my female 3 1/2 year old lab that is my personal treasure. We've trained quite hard for this and it has paid off.
For the weekend we ended up collecting our three swans and five ducks. I figure I should have had about double that number of ducks but my shooting was poor at best. I think I was leading too much.
The swans weren't tough ofcourse, just get out to the bill and hit the trigger. Saturday in some freezing rain we had a flock pass over the duck decoys and I folded one on my side. Sunday we saw two sitting in a back water slough off the river and got in close enough to jump them both.
I'll copy a couple of pictures of Babe and mallards a little later!

L. David KeithI've got to get up your way and do this someday. I hear the waterfowling can be outstanding at times. Nice pics Scott!

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......
"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
