Ah yes have a wirehair that had a pension to chew through seatbelts as a younger dog. After replacing several belts and him almost biting a bullet from pistol he got the message. Its funny what some dogs will chew and others will avoid certain objects. My Gordon used to love to chew shoe but only my wife's. No rhyme or reason. I found most of the damage came from separation anxiety from owner or boredom. He should grow out of it and there are some commercial sprays that you can spray on the fabric that may deter him.
