What a load of crap. I'm too lazy, but someone should send a letter to the editior. 4000+ ducks he shot--in MS? With a RIFLE? Sure you're right. From http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10033613 Miller: 5 things to know | BoSox camp FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Ducks and ninth-inning hitters have scant chance against Jonathan Papelbon, so scant that both species undoubtedly are thrilled now that the Boston right-hander, as advertised, is working his way back into the starting rotation: Hitters for obvious reasons, after Papelbon mowed through the American League last summer with one of the most impressive jobs ever by a rookie closer. Jonathan Papelbon, an ace closer last season, now prepares to work every fifth day. (Getty Images) Ducks because when Papelbon retreats to his Mississippi home after the season (he also owns a home in Jacksonville, Fla.), he replaces the baseball in his right hand with a rifle. And after smoking opposing hitters for 35 saves last summer, Papelbon went out and bagged himself 4,402 ducks this winter. "I'm sure it's an unprintable number," Red Sox starter Curt Schilling says when asked for a guess on Papelbon's kill count. Unprintable to the ducks, maybe. Four-thousand-four-hundred-and-two! The 26-year-old deadeye says he kept careful track. "There are a couple of places in Mississippi we hunt that are big flurries for ducks," Papelbon says. "It's my happy spot." * *The article continues, but was truncated by poster. ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

Maybe he had a decimal out of place!! Graybird "Make no mistake, it's not revenge he's after ... it's the reckoning."

Whatever the actual facts may be (which you can bet didn't have anything to do with numbers of birds killed in the thousands ) , I find the whole thing sort of hilarious. 'Grabbed his rifle', and in a regular season shot what, ~70 birds a day with it? No facet of the story even comes close to me as passing an entry level sanity test. The downside? That most reading that bile won't know any better and will perpetuate the ignorance; it'll be anti fodder one way or the other is my prediction. ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

Right on Kamo, more ammo for the anti hunters.

That is BS if I ever read it. Maybe him and all of his duck hunting friends combined, but not alone.

You guys are looking at the atory all wrong. He pitches for Boston! We Yankee fans keep trying to tell you that in Boston they'll stop at nothing! This is an obvious Boston trick to intimidate NY Yankee batters. (No, Doctor, I don't think everybody is after me -just the Boston Red Sox!)

Damn straight we won't! NY Yankees candy ass fans will always find *something* to whine a about. We Bostonians on the other hand have nothing but totally legitimate beefs. If Pablebon pitches half as well as he lies, along with the Diceman, it could be an interesting season! ______________________ Hunting: I'd kill to participate.

Kamo Gari: If it comes down to pitching (and I think it will) Boston looks to be in a lot better shape this year than NY. At least Boston spent a heck of a lot of money (according to what I read) on a new Japanese pitcher. So far, in NY, all I see is that the GM brought back Andy Petitte - a veteran who had departed for Atlanta pastures a while back. One year contract - some 14 million dollars as I recall. Andy Petitte was always one of those pitchers who scared NY fans when ever he started. If he was "on", he was great. If not, he got shelled in the 3rd inning at latest. This is our "new blood"? Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention - NY brought up a AAA phenom. I had the "privilege" of watching him in a Spring training game. His catcher was Jorge Posada, the top catcher for the Yankees and who could even be called a "star" catcher. (You and I know a team's best catcher was catching in order to give this guy his best shot) What do I see? This guy kept shaking off signs. He was reached quite quickly. This is more "new blood"? I may even decide to bet on Boston this year - and that would be a terrible insult to Babe Ruth! Oh, I forgot, you folks up there do not allow mention of that name in polite company.
