A hunting plantation near Atlanta is offering three tower pheasant shoots, one in December and two in 2014 (Jan & Feb). I want to go but the shoot won't take place unless there are at least 10 people signed up, and preferably more, not to exceed 20. So I am asking guys (and gals) on this forum to sign up.

I have been on several tower (or continental) shoots and they are a lot of fun--and not as easy as you might think.

15 pheasants per participant are released from a concealed tower, and hunters rotate around a perimeter. Labs retrieve the downed pheasants and they are taken back to the lodge as the day progresses.

At the end of the day the pheasants are counted and divided equally among participants--so you know you will go home with birds.

A 60% success rate is considered pretty good.

The last time I naively posted a discussion on tower shoots on AR I was aggressively attacked for promoting an "unethical and unsportsmanlike method of hunting." Some people don't consider tower shoots hunting, or have an ethics problem with the concept--if you are one of those people, it is your right to have an opinion, but I'd appreciate not turning this post into a flaming event.

The shoots are held at Burnt Pine Plantation, near Newborn about an hour east of Atlanta, and the lodge is just fantastic.

For more information or to sign up, go to the Burnt Pine website, www.burntpine.com and then email Brian Mask, the general manager, at brian@burntpine.com . I've suggested to Brian that he post this and other hunts he has at Burnt Pine (deer, quail, ducks) on the "Offered and Discounted Hunts" forum on AR, and I hope he does.

I guarantee you will have a great time!
