Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

georgeldGreat pics:
I'm 68 and never been yet. Invited to join another guy in two days for Merriam's I believe.
Will be shooting my old 1100, 3" #2 lead.
Where shall I aim?? For the head, right?
This gun used to be a long range duck killer with these shells. Fact is, this box is left over from those lead days prior to the steel laws.
Thanks for the advice.

Get smaller shot. I use #6 normally. However, Hevi-Shot makes a blend of 5's, 6's & 7's that is devastating. Incredible patterns in my gun. Aim right where the neck meets the head.
BODY SHOTS RARELY RESULT IN A DEAD BIRD THAT IS RECOVERED. SHOOT THEM IN THE HEAD/NECK.
By all means, pattern your gun first. I was shocked this year when I patterned mine with some high dollar specialty shells. Let me put it this way. with a bench rest, at a stationary bird, I would have had a much better chance to kill a bird on the left or the right than the bird I would have been aiming at.

L. David KeithLast year I tried the Federal 3.5" #5 shot with the Flight max shot cup and it was excellent. My first bird didn't move..stoned him. Second tom flopped a little but I shot him with Winchester 3.5" #5's at 40 yards. I do agree with Larry, smaller shot; 5's or 6's. Haven't used the Hevi-Shot as I've had no problems out to 54 yards with standard 3.5" 5's from Winchester or Federal. And for sure pattern your gun. I use a stock Benelli full choke and it shoots a great pattern out to 50+ yards with 3.5" shells.

larryshoresI think that one has to be really careful with these shotguns. There can be big surprises when guns are patterned.
I have a Benelli SBE 11. I bought some other chokes for it including a "super full" that was made specifically for turkey hunting. My standard full choke patterned noticeable better than the super full.

I agree Larry.....there's nothing magical about some after-market chokes. The ones that came with my Benelli (and Stoeger for that matter) are just fine.
