Hey Doc,

This seems to be one of those powders that you love or hate, there is no middle ground. As for me, I love it, as does my T/C Renegade 54 cal. Just like any other shooting endeavor, you need to try several powders to see what works, and the Shockley's Gold was way better than anything I ever shot out of my rifles. A close second was the Pyrodex Select. I have not found a rifle that likes triple 7 at all.
One more thing: there are a number of powders that have a reputation for developing a crud ring, or nasty fouling in the bore for some unexplained reason. I have found that if you take the time to clean out all traces of oil before you fire that first shot, that issue is a moot point.
The Shockley's Gold is great stuff.

My Encore HATES it. Can't get it to group for crap. I'll stick to Pyrodex.

My sidelock Renegades won't shoot American Pioneer or Shockeys without a little hangfire. Those granules are so big - they won't continously-pour from my black plastic or brass flasks. That stuff kinda' reminds me of de-icer rock salt by the looks of it.

Now my Omega inline loved the American Pioneer.... well up until around 300 grain bullets. The American Pioneer didn't seem to have the oooommmpph to handle my bruiser conicals between 385 and 460 grains. But for regular sabot bullets 180-300 gr, it did plenty fine.

A real clean powder -- even cleaner than 777. Pyrodex is just too corrosive for me. More corrosive than real blackpowder.

blows Hodgdon's stuff away in my Knight. But I'm not using the Jim Shockey Gold. No need, I use 3 sticks with my Barnes bullet. Killed several head of game so far. IS VERY CLEAN, that is not hype.

I've had decent results with it as far as accuracy goes, but their claims about the number of shots are something I haven't seen. I can see a difference between each shot as loading becomes more difficult. It is cleaner than most, but I still need to clean the barrel to ease loading.

American Pioneer Powder "Jim Shockey Gold" powder is not worth a darn in any of my three Encores. No matter the bullets I tried or the different loads I have tried, I could not get it to shoot acceptable groups as I get with Triple 7. I can get 1 inch groups with the triple 7 but I was lucky to get 3 inch groups with the American Pioneer Powder "Jim Shockey Gold".

I have learned my lesson not to sway away from Triple 7.

Ah, well. I've got it some "Shockey's Gold," and I told Jim I'd give it a fair test-- so, I will.

It shouldn't take "5562 shots without swabbing" to see how it compares. :0).

The latest Black Mag 3 actually can be extracted out from the bottle, so I'll try that as well.

I used the Shocky's Gold powder sticks in my Encore last year. I did no cleaning for the 20 to 30 shots I fired with it and the barrel didn't get significantly fouled and cleaned easily at the end of the season.

My rifle wasn't scoped but with iron sites did 3 to 4 inches at 100 yards using T/C plastic sabots and .44 caliber handgun bullets.

I will never know i guess...............sent e-mails for 1 1/2 years now to them asking for a local distributor and they have never bothered to answer a single e-mail.

Guess I do not want to do business with people like that anyways.

Has anyone tried it in a flintlock? They claim it works in them but I don't trust manufacturer hype.
