Ok I am not an extreme noob when comes to this and I have killed three Elk with a ML but I have always used T/C maxi hunters. They worked great everytime. I have my own inline now that I got for Christmas last year. A CVA Wolf inline. It is exactly what I wanted and on a budget it seems like a very nice rifle. I want to shoot some sabots and I plan on using the Blackhorn 209 powder. My question is are the 250 grain sobots a good weight for Elk size game or should I go heavier? Don't yell at me for not shooting it yet, I have been busy.

Personally I would go with 300gr. or heavier. I have dropped big cow elk with 300gr and 348gr powerbelts as well as sabot bullets. They were all pass throughs so I have no idea what they looked like. If you should hit heavy bone the heavier bullets have a lot better chance of dropping the elk.

I agree with MLKeith. I would go with the 300 grain bullets. I even use them for deer hunting. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson

Makes sense and I appreciate the help. I am an A-frame fan in centerfire so I am going to try them in my ML.

The 285gr. Barnes Spitfire MZ is what I have used for the last 15 animals that I have shot (to 800 lbs. including a 7X7 bull). I must say they have worked flawlessly.
