well i am finally off my butt and starting the kit. its a 54 cal greatplains kit with a 1 / 60 twist so it should be great for the r/b shooting i hope for. question i have is about the stock. ive seen some sexy stocks that have either figured wood that puts the curcumfrence dark wood down the stock or maybe it is done with die. anyone done this and if so would you share with me how i can do it. got a few ideas but would like somebody else's idea as well. i think about getting cotton string and tieing it around the stock every inch or so and dribbling dark die on the strings so it bleeds into the wood prior to starting my finishing of the stock to get that figured look to a fairly plain stock......anybody?? ---------------------------------- when all is said and done...more will be said then done

Hey Ted, Did you ever send that egg sucking T.C. back for a new barrel? In answer to your question I suggest another website, muzzleloading forum.com The focus is entirely on traditional muzzleloaders and there are some very wizened old salts who lurk on those thread. The only thing I've tried is a very light and fast burn with a blow torch prior to staining. No it won't stripe the wood any more than a leopard can change his spots. However, if you're careful it can give nice finish. Stain with aquafortis and apply a lot of linseed oil or something similar. Maybe you should try to refinish that POS TC?

yellowstone, no i still have the pos setting around but i did get ahold of tc and they say send it in. but i have had second thoughts about it in that im considering haveing the bore gouged out to 58 cal with about a 70 twist for rb shooting. plenty of meat there as it is a 1 inch barrel. ive been casting about and asking questions about gatting another barrel and it seems like the military has taken many od the machining places to task for their use so ...maybe opening my useless barrel is the answer. thanks for the other site...ill def go there and cast about and test the water ---------------------------------- when all is said and done...more will be said then done
