Going to buy my first muzzleloader. Which is better? Anything special I should know about either? Does the breech open the same on each? Thanks

That's a no brainer, but the TC !!! The CVA Kodiak is junk. Get an Omega Z5 for just a bit more and feel secure that you won't hurt yourself from an unproofed, untested, extruded barrel !!!

I love my TC omega. Fantastic gun, accruate, well balanced.

Check out the new model though (model slips my mind). Its an Omega, but its a stainless, laminate short vershion, with a peep sight. I handled one in the store, very nice

hand down,t/c is better, but it is also twice as much money.it depends on how much you want to spend.I sold all my t/c sidelocks ($1200)a few years ago and got a cva inline break open at cabelas($139)

I would have to agree that the Omega is THE choice to make....hands down. I would be very careful of the CVAs. They may well be adequate but there has been a lot of controversy about how sound they may be. A search will provide more discussion.

Love my Kodiak. Very accurate and fun to shoot. If you believe half of the bad press, they would have been sued off the market by now. Read and follow the directions.

I have owned several CVA M/L's and still have three and love them all. If you dont get crazy they will work fine.

Good luck and good shooting.

The Omega is made nicer , but the CVA is far from junk.....they are very servicable deer hunting weapons.

Beware of the Omega if you hunt in cold weather and need to wear heavy gloves......the trigger guard is made ridiculous small and there is little room to shoot with gloves on........I refuse to own one until that design flaw is changed.........
