Fellas, I'm Headed to Iowa this week and it's supposed to be very cold compared to what I'm used to hunting.

I shot my rifle a couple of times this weekend and she's still dead on 1.5" high at 100 w/ my 44 grains of IMR SR 4759 and a Bare saboted 250 SST. Now here's my question..... I've hunted w/ this load in the 30s and 40s but, How is it going to do in the teens and 20s w/ possible snow?

I feel like it'll shoot but, I just don't know and I have no way of testing before we go hunt.

Thanks

You shouldn't see any meaningful difference in ballistics or point of impact going down into to the teens.

What you may find , though , is the SST s load like bastards when evything gets cooled off , and you need about a 4 lb hammer to ram them down the bore . I think it helps to load up while you ares till in the house , camp or whatever ; I think it might help to carry you bullets and sabots underneath you coat where they can stay warmed up some . Personally , like Dead Centers better for ease of loading........

Hunted w/ it for 4 days in snow and bitter cold. The temps were -13 one morning and -9 on the last morning when I fired it to unload, it shot fine despite the harsh elements throughout the hunt. Just plain win 209s were used. I loaded it on the first Morning and kept it loaded and in the truck until the last day.

Sorry you didn't get a shot at something on your hunt.
I think the 4759 and the savage were made for each other.
Just got through setting up a new one for a fellow yesterday using 4759.@100 last group was a hair smaller than an inch.It was in the 20's yesterday morning.
Been working with the 4759 now for a couple years and have found that is the best for temp changes here which are not like the ones up north and out west.Mine has shot the same in the 20's and the high 80's.
