His rifles are WELL worth the wait! I just got my 8-bore jaeger caplock from him.

Best,

John

John,
Have you shot the gun yet? Why did you settle on the 8?
Thanks
John

Have shot it quite a bit actually in the last six weeks. It shoots well, as I'm sure all of Jim's rifles do. I settled on the 8-bore as it seems to have a better record for penetration. For anything smaller than elephant I can use round ball and for elephant I can use conicals. These will out-penetrate 4 bore round balls and seem infinitely more practical than possibly moving up to 4-bore conicals (1/2 pound!)

Are you trying to decide between the two? Drop me a PM.

Best,

John

John: What's the 8-bore's barrel twist rate?

Bill,

The twist on mine is 1:120....Obviously, this will work better for the round balls but assuming any conical would be used on elephant, I think "minute of elephant heart" accuracy is all that is necessary. Wouldn't be doing any shooting in that case at beyond 50 yards anyway.

Best,

John

Hello John,
I am probably only going to use it on whitetails so any of John's gun will be big enough. Just have to decide which gun to order.

J_Zola,

Maybe a 10 or 12 bore then? Its a tough decision. Have you thought about whether you are going to with Jaeger or Englsh style?

I think I like the Enlish style with the Rigby stock. I was all set to buy a Encore but after looking over his gun I cannot live with out a big bore gun. Have you looked at his peep sight?

I know, his rifles are really beautiful. Easy to pass on the Encore for a nice custom gun every time! Smiler I like his English guns too but obviously decided to go with the Jeager. I like short full-stock rifles but if I were going for a 10 or 12 bore I might look harder at the English style. I haven't seen his peep sight....but I imagine it is nice if Jim is putting it on his rifles. Is it his own creation?

Best,

John

The peep sight looks like his own work. In the pictures John sent the sight was on the English style rifle.
