I was wondering if anyone has used this BP substitute. Jim Shockey raves about it, but I was curious if anyone on this forum had any experience with it.

You want almost a full pound of their fffg? I will give it to you... I bought it, and the first thing I noticed was that it looks just like cat litter. It is WAY to coarse for a clean burn, IMO. And it fouls like mad. After three shots w/o swabbing, it took a massive amount of pressure to seat a saboted bullet. Hodgdon's 777 is MUCH cleaner. Stay away from it. The only way Shockey can claim 1000 shots without cleaning is because some other poor sucker is cleaning his rifle for him. The stuff is nothing more than Clean Shot packaged under a new name, from what I understand. It didn't sell then, and I suspect it isn't going to sell as Am. Pioneer, either...

I do not have much experience with it yet, but I did buy some of the 50 grain "sticks" to try. What I can tell you is that with the 5 rounds I shot last Tuesday, the primers were badly deformed. However, it did not stink and it sure cleaned out easy. I tried it over the triple 7 because I've heard several remarks about the "ring" triple 7 leaves behind in the bore, which is very difficult to clean and if it builds too much, will cause future seating to be slightly different. My Knight Revolution was dysfunctional and I had to send it back to Knight. I told them I needed it back because I'm going to WY on the 23rd and MUST have it in plenty of time to work up a load. I was told not to worry, that the new Knight 285 Sabot (Barnes bullet) seated over 120 grains of loose 777 is a very accurate load and to try it. So, I went to Bass Pro and bought what I needed to try when I get it back. The guy said he had to use the loose powder on elk in CO because it is illegal to use pellets. I'm a pellet fan myself. I like it easy. As for Pioneer, I have an email out to them and to Knight to see if the primer deformation was due to the powder or the rifle mechanism, or perhaps both. Doc, I try to always clean my White at the end of a shooting session while still at the range, or at the end of a hunt, and I am trying to make it a habit to discharge the rifle at the end of the day while in the woods. The 777 has never been a problem for me to clean out, and I have shot as many as a dozen shots at the range before cleaning. I use 70% isopropyl alcohol (and water), bought at a dollar store. It is ~$.75 for a 16-oz bottle. I buy two bottles, fill a quart spray bottle, and I am good to go. The alcohol cuts the sugar-based Triple 7 extremely easily, and the alcohol dries the bore in a hurry. Hope this helps. I REALLY like the 777 in both my Whites.

THANKS! I'm no ML expert by any means. I'll go get that stuff tomorrow. Do you mix the alcohol with water or use it straight? The way I read it, you use it straight. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns

I use it just like it comes packaged. The stuff I buy is a 70% alcohol/water mix, and smells like wintergreen. I ain't crazy about wintergreen smell, but the price is right! Good luck, let me know how it works for you. Scot

I will. But I have to wait until Knight fixes my rifle and sends it back. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns

I tried the loose FFG, it seems low-powered compared to the same amounts of 777 or BlackMag3. It does clean up easy though.
