I have a Johnston’s Ultimate Muzzleloader. I shoot the 777 pellets. It shoots well and packs a punch. Having said that I’d like to shoot something that generates less smoke and burns a little cleaner .

When I shoot something now, unless the animal drops instantly, I have no idea if I hit it or not. Further , I have no idea which way it may have gone.

A cleaner burning power would make loading a second or third shot a little easier . I shot 2 hogs Thursday afternoon. Trying to load a third shot was difficult.

Does anyone have a recommendation?

Depending on the breech system and if it’s fully sealed, you MAY be able to shoot a load with AA 5744 powder. This is a smokeless powder and works well with muzzleloaders that can handle it.

Shoot straight, shoot often.

If the smokeless powder recommendation doesn't work for you give Blackhorn 209 a try. It's expensive but it really is good stuff. I've shot over a half dozen shots at the range without any cleaning between shots.
