I paid a little less than that at Midsouth but it is still expensive but boy does it work great!!! Chronographs higher volume for volume with 777 ffg and feels like less recoil. 777 has a real sharp recoil feel. Apparently BM3 has a slower pressure rise but builds more up the barrel. With 300gr. bullet and 100gr. volume powder 777 1800fps / BM3 2000fps. 777 load felt uncomfortable in my Omega brused the shoulder and would not shoot more than four or five ,BM3 load could have shot 20 or so with no bad results. I too am trying to get local shops to carry it.

MLKeith, Thank you for your information on BM3 powder. Based on some of your prior write-ups on this and other forums, I tried BM3 in my Knight Predator 50 Cal. with a SS 24" barrel. The local gunstore actually had 2 - 1 lb. containers and did not even know it until I inquired about this powder. This past weekend I went with my brother-in-law to the local range, since he had bought a new ML and wanted to see how it shot. So, I accompanied him and shot in my Knight ML 90gr. of BM3 with a 300 gr. Barnes Expander MZ bullet. Not only was the accuracy good (around 1" at hundred yards) but there were no fliers, which I always got whan shooting any other loose powder. Even the hot weather (90 degrees) did not adversely affect the accuracy. As you have stated, the barrel was very clean. I got almost a clean patch when swabbing between shots. I then tried not swabbing between shots and could go 4 shots before having to swab (ie, after 4 shots without swabbing, the Barnes bullet/sabot was nearly impossible to push down the barrel, though this bullet/sabot combo is not the easiest even with a completely clean barrel). I did notice that the open area behind the breech plug did begin to get a build-up of black sooty deposit after about 10 shots. However, I could literally wipe it completely off with just my finger. Also, as you had indicated, recoil seemed less than when I was using loose 777 powder, though I really cannot quantify this. The next time out, I'll bring my chronograph to measure muzzle velocities. I just purchased a Muzzleblaster Chrono Box, so I should be able to get fairly close to the muzzle. It was just too hot & humid this past weekend to bring out the chronograph. Also, the next time out I might experiment with loads up to 100gr. of BM3, though my muzzleloader shot so well with the 90 gr. load that I may just stick with it. Needless to say, I will continue to use this powder. If it had not been for some of your other forum posts, I would not have known about this powder. My local gunshop is going to look into stocking BM3 on a regular basis. Thanks again.

I have tried both the ff 777 and the fff 777. I was shooting a 460 gr bullet. with 60 gr of ff 777 speed was 1289, 60 gr of fff 777 same bullet was 1325. 70 gr of ff 777 was 1330, 70 gr of fff 777 was 1380. I didn't go past this point because i was seeing some leading in the bore. I was shooting a TC renegade with a Green Mountain Stainless Stee barrel. I was shooting Iron Sights. My group sizes were about 1" to 1 1/4" at 70 yards. Ron

MLKeith What is BM3? Idaho Ron I was not aware that 777 was made in ff & fff I thought it was only listed as 777. I will have to check my containers at home for the different listings. Swede --------------------------------------------------------- NRA Life Member

BM3 is the short way of saying Black Mag'3 which is an ascorbic acid based powder made by Magkor in Florida and only comes in one grain size which is close to fff. It burns very clean and in my Omega is the perfect powder. I have tried Pyrodex, 777 ffg, clear shot, clean shot and Pinncle and I still like Black Mag'3 the best. Problem is that it is difficult to find and if you order it like I did from Midsouth it is more expensive as the hazmat fee kicks up the price even more. Omega owners seem to all be in agreement that it is an Omega best.

Forgot to add that Black Mag'3 works the best in long barrels and with heavier bullets. In my Omega it outperforms ffg 777 for velocity at the same volume of powder with a 300gr. sabot/bullet. 100gr. BM3 with 300gr. bullet and 209 Winchester primer three shot average just over 2000fps. and the felt recoil was less than the same load of 777 which was a couple hundred fps. less.
