will accuracy suffer if i completly clean and dry the bore after each shot while grouping? since i will be hunting with a clean bore i would think this would be the best way. i went to the range with my omega and 250 gr shockwaves and tried 100 110 and 120 gr charges of pyrodex RS. i couldnt get consistent groups. the best was maybe 2 inches at 100 yards. i swabed the bore with one No 13 patch and a dry patch between shots. I was thinking i might get better groups with the 300gr shockwaves or SSTs and a complete cleaning between shots.

I use a spit patch between shots if I am using round balls, or sabot with slug, or Power Belts. It is easier to load improves accuracy and helps the barrel to cool due to the extra time it takes. While deer hunting if I shoot at a Deer and need to reload I still use a spit patch. I have stuck to many sabot with slug an inch or 2 down my Knight Predator and split the ramrod only to have the second Deer run off. Others will disagree but this system works for me. Have fun shooting your smoke pole regardless of the method you choose. Swede --------------------------------------------------------- NRA Life Member

Regardless the effect on accuracy unless you foul the bore before loading your hunting charge you are relying on a clean bore and a "cold zero" in the field. I believe it was Seyfried who recommended we keep a target dot in our range bag and fire only our first shot at it the beginning of each session. The group that accumulates on it over time is the best your rifle can be expected to do for the first shot in the field. Good hunting!
