Just bought a TC omega in blue steel on sale at Wal-Mart.(1) Is there anything that I need to know or do before I shoot it? (2)What kind of powder do you recommend? I have 777 bulk and 777 pellets on hand and some pyrodex on hand with some remington 209's. Thanks in advance Larry

Larry, 1)Clean it before your first shooting session. 2)Those primers and powders will work fine. 3)Have fun.

Do yourself a favor and get the Remington Kleenbore Muzzleloader primers. No crud ring with them. What's a blue Omega run at wally world on sale?

Believe it or not the gun was on close out for $169.95. They only had one. Also picked up 777 for $5.00 a can. We have a small wal-mart and they don't have much storage space so at the end of the season they just sell every thing. Thanks Larry

I have the same rifle. Bought mine at Wally World last year on close out. Mine likes 2 50gr pellets of 777 and the 250 gr Hornady SST Sabot Lock-n-loads. 1.25" at 100yds. About 1850 or so fps with 2 pellets. Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps.

Duckear Thanks for the heads up on the load for the omega. I've got some of the T/C 250gr bullets but I'll have to pick up some of the Hornady sst bullets. I had already read on the 777 package that they don't recommend using more that (2) pellets. Larry

Larry, I think your Omega can handle three without pressure problems, it just might not shoot as accurately as with a two pellet charge. The warning on the package is more likely because there are lots of older m/l's out there that it isn't a good idea to try such a stiff load in, and if their lawyers didn't make them put it on the package, some idiot would try to load it in a potato gun, blow it up, and sue them. I'd try the loose powder, and also regular Pyrodex RS. You can work up your load in 10gr increments and find out where it shoots most accurately. The pellets have their place in hunting for the sake of convenience and quicker loading, but also their limitations in lack of versatility. Maybe the difference will only be an increase of an inch or so in group size at a reasonable range, but maybe that increase will be six or eight inches. If you don't experiment, then you'll never know. I'd get a few different kinds and weights of bullets to try, too. Every rifle is different as to what it shoots best, even two of the same model and caliber. (That difference may not be great, but there will be a difference.) I got curious with a .54 rb barrel one day and found to my surprise that it would shoot 400gr MaxiBalls into an inch at 100yds. If I hadn't tried it just to see what would happen, I'd never have had a clue. You have nothing to lose by experimenting, and maybe something good to gain. BTW, T/C also sells empty sabots that you can load with your choice of cast or jacketed handgun bullets much more cheaply than the prepackaged ones. ..And why the sea is boiling hot And whether pigs have wings. -Lewis Carroll
