My brother Harry and I just got back from a GREAT pronghorn hunt in Laramie, WY. It was just one of those trips where everything just goes GREAT!

When we got to Laramie Tuesday afternoon we checked in the motel there and met Bill, our guide. Bill told us to get our guns and shooting stuff together and he would take us to sight in our rifles and make sure they were shooting where they were supposed to. He told me that he had been worrying about me using a muzzleloader and all.

When we got to the shooting area I let Harry be first with his .257 Weatherby. The target was 100yds. His shot was exactly 3 inches high and about a half-inch to the left. Good enough. I first swabbed my barrel with a clean patch and popped off a primer and loaded up with 125gr ffg 777, 200gr SST, and a BLUE MMP SABOT! First shot EXACTLY on center and just under 3.0 inches high. Hey, that's EXACTLY where it is supposed to be. I told Bill I wanted to shoot one more so I swabbed with a spit-patch and loaded up again. Next shot, THRU THE SAME HOLE!!!! Bill said that was the best shooting he had seen of ALL his hunters. And looking at the targets they had been shooting, he was RIGHT! He also mumbled, "I'm not worried about you and your muzzleloader any more!"

Next we drove around some of the hunting area. I have NEVER seen as much game anywhere. This place was covered UP with pronghorn! He also showed me two blinds he had built for me. They looked to be in good spots, within 100yds of a windmill well.

Next morning, Wednesday, starts the hunt. We spotted a couple of herds and decided that my brother would shoot first. After a long stalk we sort out one group that is feeding from left to right and get some hay bales between us and the pronghorn. We run to get as close as possible before we are exposed. My brother has his shooting sticks out and I give him the range, 270yds. Harry holds dead on and the .257 goes off and the herd starts running. Suddenly the buck stops, and falls over. Good shot there Harry! Quickly we take some pictures and field dress the animal as we see another heard approaching us.

We run like mad behind a hill to get between them. The herd spooks and runs toward a fence. A few of the does go under the fence and it's just a matter of time before they all go under the fence. I take a range and the distance is 197yds. Bill asks "can you make that shot?" and I utter that I think I can. I rest on my shooting sticks while stitting and aim where the white meets the tan and squeeze the trigger. The Disc Elite roars and the herd starts running. That is all but the buck who is still standing where I shot him. Bill looks thu his binoculars and says that he sees blood coming out of him. I START to reload and he topples over! YIPPEE!!! My first kill with the .50 Disc Elite and the 200gr SST and my longest muzzleloader shot to date. Bill couldn't BELIEVE it! Oh, by the way, it's 11:18AM the first day of the hunt!!

Talk about a shot THRU the heart!!!!

Anyone want to go with us NEXT YEAR?
