Last week I finally broke down and ordered some BH209. Couldn't find any locally so I swallowed hard and paid the HazMat fees and had some shipped in. From the results I've seen I'm sure glad I did! My Encore has been an adequate shooting rifle with T7mag pellets or loose T7 and a several 300gr bullets. With BH209 it has become an excellent shooting rifle using those same bullets. I started off using 110grs by volume with a 300gr XTP and short black MMP sabot. This combo produced three groups at 100yds that hovered around 1". Next bullet tried was the 300gr SST with an HPH12 sabot. The 100yd groups were similar to the XTP so I was happy enough to leave it for now. Next up was the 300gr Barnes original and the Hornady 300gr HP. These are both .458" bullets so I used the orange colored MMP sabot. These also made nice 1" to 1.25" groups @ 100yds. When I moved out to 150yds I shot several groups and all were sized similarily to the 100yd results. Overall, I'm completely sold on the BH209. No patching between shots, no annoying crud ring in the barrel and no stinky smoke. It does produce plenty of smoke, but it is virtually odorless. Cleanup is easy with Hoppe's #9 or Shooter's Choice. Just be sure to use a strong 209 primer like a Fed. 209A or Win. 209 and not the weak ones being touted for use with T7. | ||
