Well, I finally got a right hand stock after waiting since July for this beast. Took it to the range today. My first comment is it is defintely fore end heavy. My second is I do not like the recoil pad at all. That will definitely have to get changed for hunting use. I started out with 300 grn cast bullets and 50grn pyrodex working up 50 grn at a time for the obvious reasons. All I can say is wow! Any time I can get between 2100 to 2400 fps and shoot an average of 3 1/2 inch groups out of a muzzeloader that is impressive. I am sure that by using powder rather than the disks and adjusting the load it could be tightened up some more especially by someone who shoots better than me. The gun is heavy so it wont make a good carry all day gun but will be great for sitting on stand or short stalks. Also very easy to clean as advertised.

Mike,
You will love your rifle. My business partner and I have four of them, it's all we shoot. If you have any questions about the rifle or if you need any bullets, give me a shout........wapiti7

I already do. I need to play with some solids out of it. I also need to take the load up to the max to see what it can do. I may get the finish coated to something a little more like a traditional blue. The only thing I dont like is the recoil pad. Definitely needs to be upgraded. That is minor though. Just something that should be addressed in the future. Just out of curiousity how far have you pushed the envelope with one of these? PM me if you want. I am more than likely taking it to Africa with me this fall.

I have had my BP Xpress for a couple of years and didn't even sight it in this year. I used my Encore ProHunter ML instead. I just can't stand the thumbhole stock. I had talked to the guys at Ultimate about a traditional stock, but they wouldn't/couldn't do it for some reason.

Yes, the gun is heavy, but to me, the thumbhole stock just makes it "cumbersome". The weight doesn't bother me, but I would like slimmer lines. You are right that the pad is definitely not good. I had requested to have a Limbsaver pad installed at the factory, but it didn't happen.

My BP Xpress has been for sale for a year, and evidently the resale is terrible on them.

On a positive note, they are very easy to clean, and mine is super accurate. It is just not my cup of tea.

I have never been a fan of thumbhole stocks either, but I can live with it. Eventually I will do something else with it. I want to see what 300grns will do. As far as resale I dont sell many guns ever.. I figure there may come a time when I can not replace them. I suppose I should cull some of the ones I dont use but dont have a need yet. Anyway back to the stock. I think you are right and it is the thumbhole configuration I dont like more than the weight. What is the mx load you have shot? I know they are rated for 250grns but after playing with it 300 is definitely manageable.

I have shot powder charges from 100 grs -250 grs and bullet weights from 250 grs to 300 grs. My best accuracy at 100 yards was with 150 gr Pyrodex pellets and 300 gr SST.

With such a sorry excuse for a recoil pad, the 250 gr charges are just plain not fun, but I do love the ignition system.
