I will hopefully be able to post a picture later. Both my dad and I shot our elk this past weekend with our muzzleloaders. Dad shot a heavy 5X5 and I shot a nice 6X6. Both shots were 200+ yards. We were shooting 300 gr barnes X and 150 grains of 777. Both shots were one shot and the animal dropped.

Can't wait for pics. I got skunked on the elk draw, so I'll have to live vicariously through those of you that get to chase 'em this fall. _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend.

Congrats on your Elk hunt success. Fill us in on the details of the hunt. What muzzeloader did you shoot them with? Did you use a scope? and what was the powder used and how much did you burn. Details, Details, is what makes hunts interesting. My father and I have always wanted to hunt Elk but havent had the money or time. My dad and I got home late yesterday. We were muzzleloading elk in New Mexico. Dad scored on the opening morning with a very nice 5X5. I shot one on Sunday morning a heavy 6X6. What a great experience. Can't wait to do it again next year. Dad shot his with a Thompson Omega at 201 Yards. Both of us were using the same loads. 150 grains 777 pellets with a barnes red hot 300 gr sabot. I used a Knight disc rifle. My shot was at 209 yards. The bull dad shot was trying to heard his cows and was moving up the mountain. He only had a few seconds to make the shot. My bull caught us in the open and stared at us for a few minutes before he started tearing up a scrub brush. When we finally caught up with him, he was engaged in a fight with another 5x5. I shot the larger bull while the two were in a fight. After the shot, the 5x5 tossed my 6x6 over, and stared at him for a couple of minutes, waiting for him to get back up. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. We hunted on a large ranch in New Mexico with United States Outfitters. They were some of the nicest and most knowledgable people I have ever been around. I would highly suggest them as a guiding service. They went above and beyond any of our expectations. When we left camp, 6 of the 8 hunters had filled out. The two that hadn't had missed several shots appiece, including one at 17 yards.
