I want to comment about the web site (and rantings) of the burst barrel on the Savage ML. The rifle that disassembled itself had over 5,000 rounds through it high velocity (approaching 3,000 feet per second) loads, many of them "experimental" duplex loadings. The man shooting it pointed out that when the barrel/breech split open, he was (on that day) shooting "normal, low pressure" loads. He seemed to be locked in a pissing contest with Savage over this and other issues. He also seems to have had a history of trouble with getting along with others in his work in the firearms industry. His is the only Savage ML that has had this problem. The majority of us who shoot these rifles stick to loads that are considered safe, and that have been shot extensively in other rifles. IF (big "if") I ever get up to 3,000 rounds through this rifle, I will probably swap out the barrel. Since I have found a load that works well for me (out to 200 yards), I seriously doubt I will shoot more than 50 shots per year. Should be good until the year 2054 at least. Garrett | ||
