Well i just broke down and baught a T/C Encore. Been lookin at black powder for years and just thaught why not? So i was wondering what i should put on it for a scope? i was thinkin, Luepholds Grand Slam. Also i was wondering the ring hights. I want to keep the scope as low as possible but not hitting of course with at least a 40mm.

Call Leupold 800-538-7653 and tell the tech guy your rifle/scope combo and he will tell you all the part numbers for your mounts....if you use Leupold mounts that is. I only use Leupold mounts for all my rifles, they are top quality at a good price with re-sale value to boot.

As far as the scope goes...I would love to have the new Leupold Grand Slam, and will in the not to distant future....3x9x40 matt.

I have a TC Encore myself and I am really pleased with the optic setup I have so that is what I will recommend: A Leupold Ultimateslam muzzleloader scope 3 x 9 x 40 with SABR reticle ($269.99), TC 1 piece Maxima Weaver-Style base ($44.49), and Warne 1" quick - detachable weaver style rings ($53.99). I have medium height rings, but I have .275 inches clearance between the objective of the scope and my barrel, so low height rings would offer plenty of barrel clearance. You will have to remove the rear sight, though. That is certainly a more expensive setup than a person needs, although it sure works nice. I have a friend who shoots an old Knight MK 85 with a cheap Tasco scope and the deer he shoots are just as dead as the ones I shoot.

Been shooting an Encore since 1996. I put a 1-4x Leupold vari-xII on and never felt the need for more scope. We hunt out of tree stands,Most of my shots are 75 to 175yds but you never know when a deer might be under the tree. Last Saturday deer #71 fell to the Encore so I'm pretty happy with the set up.
