Anyone have experience with this bullet on deer? I'd be interested in hearing about its performance, distance of shots, how far the deer went after the hit, loads, and from what rifle. Thanks.

They are a great MLer bullet. They have a much better BC than most other saboted bullets which make them pretty flat. I've used them in two smokeless Savages and one Rem 700ml but, I haven't shot a deer w/ them w/ anything but the Savage (250s w/ MV 2350). I've taken three bucks w/ the 250 grain version 2 at 155 yards and one a 130 yards. One dropped, one went 25 yards, and the other went about 100 (gut shot). They mushroom nicely and the interloct ring really holds em' together. Great Bullet! Not too expensive either, the last batch I bought was about $7 a box from Midway or Midsouth. Good Luck! I used a .40/50 200gr SW (same bullet as the SST) out of the Savage last fall. Shoulder shot @ 90yds put him straight down. ************************ Our independence is dying.

For the past 2 years I have shot only 250 gr. SST's, from an Omega, Encore and Savage ML II. In the past 2 years I have hit and retrieved 18 deer, from 10 to 230 yds. 5 of them at 200+ yds. I have only recovered 1 bullet from a gut pile, all the rest pass through. I have shot a lot of different kind of saboted bullets and I plan to use Hornady's 250 SST next year. Good luck Oldsnow

Three positive posts. That's great. I really like the way they look. I hope to try them this year on deer. Bought my first inline, an Omega, just after Christmas and have just started playing with the SST's. The Omega has a really tight bore and the SST's and ShockWaves are tight to load. What tips do you guys have for consistent loading and accuracy? Any tips for making them load a little easier? I just bought some MMP sabots to try but they look just like the ones that come with the SST's. Thanks.

Some good elbow grease . If you don't have a palm saver, get one for sure. I would shoot a couple of groups w/ the real tight loads. Clean w/ a damp patch inbetween shots. Then rub a tiny amount of bore butter on the sabots for a couple of groups. The Bore butter should ease seating but, it may effect groups size. Good Luck! Reloader

I shoot 2, 50 gr and 1, 30 gr. Pyrodex pellets, with a remington 209-4 primer. I also clean between each shot with alcohol. the SST's load tight for me also but they shoot 1 1/2" groups at 100 yds, 4" at 200 yds.

I am using the 200 grain shockwave with 100g 777. shoots 1 inch at 100. I use rem drilube to spay on the sabots. It really helps on loading. shockwave/sst have worked real good for me. any shots thru the broadside in and out dead dear. I had to take a bad shot on a doe this year and it went from the back to the front. nice little hole in the front of one rear leg, into the guts, lungs, liver and took out the offside front shoulder. Recoverd bullet weighed 155 grains. Better than 75% retained weight. Probably don't need such a tough bullet to shoot does, but they shoot so accurate. I just like shooting them.

I used the Hornady 250gr SST with 2-50gr 777 pellets last season and had great accuracy out of my knight rifle, with a 3 shot group around a inch puting one of the bullets into the same hole. Then went out opener of muzzy season and connected with a nice doe @ 50yrds quatering towards me, she made the classic mule kick and headed for the harwoods and piled up only 30 yards away. I recoverd the bullet and it mushroomed well, and when I was butchering I found the the tip in the front shoulder meat were the bullet entered. The bullet on the left is from a 100yrd shot to the throat on whitetail buck, and it is a Nosler 140gr Accubond in 270win.

I shoot the 250gr SST's in my Savage MLII-SS. I took two deer last fall, one at 90 yds, the other at 145yds(ranges taken w/bushnell rangefinder) Both deer traveled less that 30 yds before falling dead. Both were lung shots, and I could not recover any bullets, but the tissue damage inside the animals was huge. 100 yard target

Have had good success with both the 200 and 250 gr. bullets. My buddy killed 4 deer last year with them from 120 to 220 yards using the 200 gr pills and 130 grs of triple 7. One bullet was recovered from a buck shot at 220 yards on the far side of the chest cavity just under the skin and ended up with %92 weight retention. I used the 250's and 150 grs of triple 7 to harvest 2 but none of the bullets were recovered though both had empresive wound channals. Big-un

Excellent ML bullet. I use the 250gr shockwave (same as SST) with 130gr 777 and shot 3 does at slightly over 100 yards and none went more than 20 feet and all were pass thrus. I also shot a buck at 200 yards with perfect mushroom 93% weight retention which was found sitting under the skin on the other side after punching thru both shoulders. It also groups extremely well shooting approx 2" groups at 150yds.

I use and really like the 300 SST. I have tried to sight in the powerbelt aerotip. My ML tends to scatter the Powerbelt, the SST shoots dead center.

Sandi and i shoot both the 200 and 250 grain Shockwave (SST) out of our Omegas and Encores. We've taken close to 3 dozen critters with them. Everything from moose to bear to caribou, deer and elk. Great bullet, longest shot was 221 yards.
