boltshooterPedersoli Kodiak Express .58 Regulation
With the extremely limited info on double muzzle loading rifles I thought I'd pass on some info in my attempts to regulate the Kodiak Express 58.
First the rifle:
1. Changed the ignition system to musket
caps (RWS flanged)
2. Installed a Thompson Center tang peep
sight; I'm an older shooter & these
eyes couldn't handle the express
sights. At the range the peep works fine.
3. Will be installing a higher front sight.
4. Installed a Kick Killer recoil pad.
The loads:
1. At 50 yds with GOEX Express 3F - 100 gr
with Lyman 577611 minies (PAPER PATCHED)
(R & L barrels) all in the black (6"
target). (Temp. about 60 F - low humidity)
2. Using beeswax/vaseline lube.
3. Group from #1 (50 yds) with warm barrel.
Cleaned between shots - 1 damp patch)
100 Yard Trial
1. 100 Grain GOEX Express, 577611 minie (PP)
R & L shots with unaccepatble wider
spread.
2. Switched to Swiss 3F - 105 gr. Left
barrel in the black; right barrel low.
The above was enough body banging for that day. I plan on using this gun for a plains game cull hunt in 2010 in S. Africa. If any interest I will post further development (100 yd - higher higher temperatures.)
The paper patch I'm using is a one wrap patch made from Kozo paper- 20 gsm (tissue like). I use an adhesive called Nori paste (very sparingly with the patch wet before wrapping) (IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE PATIENCE OR TIME DON'T TRY PAPER PATCHING; IT'S A RETIREES THING).
Pedersoli Kodiak Express 58 shooters don't give up, don't trade it, sell it, just keep developing.
Bolt shooter,
If you need a primer on finding a load that shoots to regulation in a double rifle, try a search in the doublle rifle forum under my name. Principals apply to all double rifles.
If you need some help. post here or shoot me a PM and I'll give it my best to answer the questions.

jeffeossoI've had 2 .. use 777 not "real" BP in these.. 100gr of goex is under 1000fps ... start at 90 gr ..
get a "power rod" the aluminum t handle, it has strength AND a ruler to show you seating depths..
these things HATE round balls .. don't bother, they'll helix

Martin Godioboltshooter,
Hi good shooting.
My Kodiak loved REALs, 3 to 4" and sometimes three out of four bullets in one hole.
I will try some minies (RCBS) soon.
Keep posting.

boltshooterMy latest attempt to regulate the Kodiak 58 double:
After various loads (powder brands, powder charges, etc.) I've found what my gun likes.
Bullet - Lyman bullett 577611
Paper patched - 2 wraps, 16# onion skin, dampened with tap water & after drying an application of "Rooster Jacket - Paper Patching Lube"
Powder - 100 grains Swiss 1 1/2 Fg. - very light compression
Between shots - one damp patch followed by one dry patch
Results @ 50 yards - 2" groups, right barrel smack dab in the bull - left barrel 2" higher slightly to the left of center.
Next stop 100 yds.

Martin GodioGood!!!
Some guys at South Africa are using a different charge in each barrel. Even thou I didnt like this at first, it looks like a good idea.
Changing left barrel load you can move POI to the center.
JMHO.

Bill/OregonBoltshooter: Keep posting! I love these Pedersoli doubles.
Martin: That sounds like a pretty good idea, actually -- different loads for each barrel to bring POI together. Sure would love to see a photo of your W. Richards Snider double!
