I recently checked the DNR website and noticed the powers that be have finally come to their senses. Smokeless powder is now LEGAL in muzzleloading rifles DESIGNED FOR IT....this means all of us Savage 10ML shooters can take full advantage of this rifle's capabilities.
I was told this to be the case some months ago, but until you see it in print the doubt always lingers a bit.

Guess that's why they call it "muzzleloader" season instead of "black powder" or
"primitive weapon" season... Good hunting!

Illinois has made several improvements in the last couple of years.

They now have a firearm season rather than a "shotgun only" season. A firearm is defined as a shotgun, muzzleloader, or a handgun within limits. A handgun cartridge cannot be a bottleneck cartridge.

Also, the "handgun only" season in January is now a firearm season.

Now if we could just get the states to stop gouging non-residents.

Actually, in those reg's I noticed a handgun cartridge CAN be bottlenecked, but can only be a max of 1.4" in case length.

John:

The way the regs are written I don't believe there are any bottlenecks that can be used. If you know of one that can be used, let me know because I will get on for my encore or contender and use it.

Thanks.

If you use a search engine, just type in IL. hunting regulations and that will take you to a DNR page with a PDF file link. Open it and go to page 10, of the 42 pages. It says a bottleneck case of at least .30cal, with a max case length of 1.4" is allowed IF factory ammo is available for it.

And both straight walled and bottlenecked cartridges have to have min 500 ft lbs energy.

I've never been able to come up with a bottleneck case less than 1.4 inches and 30 caliber. Anyone have an idea? Otherwise a 41 or 44 mag are the best choices IMHO.

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

Mike Bellm does have a 30 cal for Il deer hunters. http://www.bellmtcs.com/store/index.php?cid=106
CNC Cartridge makes the ammo. Check out the web page for the basics and links to the ammo.

The tree huggers are out there. They can't be reasoned with, they can't be bargained with... they don't feel pity or remorse or fear...and they absolutely will not stop. Ever.
