Hi all, Im not sure if this is the right place for this question, but if not it will end up where it belongs. A friend has a Sile Sharps 54 cal percussion for sale. He told me its about 25-30 yrs old and is still in cardboard box, never shot. Its a beautiful rifle, 28 in barrel, clean as a pin. We are working out the details on me owning it, but I have a few questions. Does anyone know the twist rate of this rifle? I have a 54 cal m/l and use mostly REAL Mine's but cast I also roundball, I'm curious as to twist and if R/B or Minie would work best. I've never messed with paper cartridges, I have the Lyman manual where it shows making them, I may have to try it. Any tips for this rifle? I have heard they tended to leak a little gas back, but hey, I wear shooting glasses!?!? Anything you have to offer will be apprecated.
