My buddy has an Encore and he shoots the power belt's with great accuracy. I have shot the power belts with good results also. In my opinion the Encore is one of the most accurate muzzleloader's out there. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. Switchback, I have a Knight Disc 50 cal that I'm very pleased with. The rifle is very accurate and the stock fits me better than most other M/L's I've tried. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Knight product to you. Having said that, the Encore (and Omega) are also excellent suggestions. Were I in the market myself, I would probably get a T/C over the Knight due to the concern of disc availability in the future. Whatever you get, I would strongly recommend stainless steel with a synthetic stock. Stainless takes some worry out of cleaning if you decide to shoot pyrodex or black powder.

Coloradeo prohibits sabots in the ML seasons, and requires a .50 cal for elk and a .40 cal for deer. So the rules pretty much choose what you want to use. I shot Powerbelts this year for deer, but next year I expect to use a bore size lead bullet. I read enough repots of shaky performance with the PBs to show me that they don't have any excess performance. We recently got a TC Omega X7 .50 cal, and it seems to be an excellent rifle. It is stainless with the laminated stock, and comes with a peep sight (Colorado does not allow scopes either). I am also interested in the White muzzleloaders, and I have a used .451 rifle coming. You can read about them at whitemuzzleloading.com. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

HunterJim, I have had the TC Omega for a while and with a nice scope, I consider it a long range ML. Last night, I handle the X7 for the first time. WOW! Rally nicely balanced gun. I thought the fit, finish and look was outstanding. The peep sight was very nice. My questions,,,,,, How far have you been able to accurately shoot it with just the peep sight? Also, is it set up for scope mounting if you were to choose to do so> Thanks Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

Hikerbum, We mostly shoot on an indoor range that is 100 yards, then move outside to another range that goes to 250 yards or another that goes to 300 yards. So far we are shooting at 100, but that is no trouble for the aperture. Check out this site for a scope mount. http://www.eabco.com/MuzzleLoader02.htm I know a guy who put this mount on his X7, and likes it. We are hunting in California, and we can't use scopes here either on ML rifles. So for now, no scopes. jim if you're too busy to hunt, you're too busy.

I keep saying this, but not many want to believe what I am saying, apparently. www.whitemuzzleloading.com Take a look at what Doc offers. Right now you can buy a stainless .504 White off his website(in kit form) for $320 delivered to your door, ready for assembly. There isn't a better deal out there, and for my money, there isn't a better MZ out there either... I have three of the Whites, and all three of them will shoot to 1-1/2" at 100 using black, 777 or Pyrodex. Tht is not measuring powder, weighing bullets or anything else. It IS shooting my own cast bullets, saboted SST/MLs from Hornady, or anything else you care to shove down the barrel... His rifles come drilled and tapped, dwith a single stage trigger factory set to between three and four pounds, truglo sights, sample bullets, and a guaranteed accuracy claim of 3" at 100 yards with factory sights. If it won't do that, he won't ship the rifle... I think the Whites are the best kept secret in muzzleloading out there, and Doc is a true gentleman. Take a look. I guarantee you won't be disappointed... No discs to fuss with, no complicated disassembly for cleaning, fast twist slip-fit barrel and a good, dense hardwood stock. What more can a guy ask for for just over $300?
