Hi all,

Just bought a TC Omega shortly after Christmas and have been playing around with various bullets. I have the 50 cal stainless model with laminate stock. I topped it off with a Leupold 3-10 VXIII in Warne rings.

I have been getting groups of the bench at 100 yards as small as 3" and as large as 8-10" depending on bullet. Three shot groups seem to work best without cleaning between shots. I find that five shot groups (without cleaning between shots) usually end up with flyers which I attribute to the rifle getting fouled.

I've been using 2-50gr pellets of 777 to keep the powder charge constant and have tried several different bullets. The most accurate so far is the Hornady 250 SST sabot. The Hornady XTPs are not too bad either. I have tried some TC bullets but found that their sabot is REALLY tight in the bore and hard to seat. The TC's are not as accurate as the Hornady bullet and sabot although I believe that the TC Shockwave is the same bullet as the Hornady SST. I have not tried Powerbelts yet but plan to soon.

What are you finding that works well? I'm looking for a good 100-150 yard load for Whitetail Deer for this next year's season. Extreme velocity is not a priority but accuracy is important to me.

Thanks.

A majority of 50-cal Omegas & Encores seem to prefer 90 gr 777 loose or two Pyrodex pellets with the Shockwaves/SSTs.

In my Omega I shoot Hornady 250 SST's two 50gr. and one 30gr. Pyrodex pellets Remington 209-4 primers. At 100 yds. 1 1/2" groups, 200yds. 4" groups. I also clean between each shot, with rubbing alcohol. With this load I have killed deer from 10 to 200+ yds.

you have the remember the 1-28 rate of twist is more accurate with the 300 grain pills a rifle is usually always twisted to shoot the heavest or most common bullet that will be shot out of it.

i shoot the 300 grain sst with 150 grains -3 tripple 7 pellets and a 3 shot group at 100 yards prints 1" every time. i also use the 285 grain barns spit fire and they print sub moa with 3 tripple 7 pellets as well
