When measuring powder by volume are you supposed to pour it in the measurer and measure it just like that or tap on it to make the powder settle more? If i tap the powder settles down about 15 grains on the scale.

It really doesn't matter in my opinion. What matters is how consistent you are. I don't tap or anything, because then you would have to fill it up some more which can add variables. However, if a person tried to fill, then two taps, then top off or something like that I'm sure it would work.

Just remember whatever you do, do it the same always.

What I have done is begun by measuring one "load" of powder, by volume. I then weigh that measure of powder and come up with a weight. I use that weight to scale the rest of the charges and put them into T/C Quick Loaders. It works well for me.

And with the strength of today's muzzleloaders, whether you tap the charge or not probably makes very little difference...

I use a Knight Powder flask and measure the flask goes on the top the measure goes under push the button and shake. I don’t know if this is the same as tapping on the powder but it is consistent and makes for some accurate shots. Knight use to recommend using a powder charger and weigh each charge to get the most accuracy. Muzzle-Loading is suppose to be fun so don’t use that method.

I sorta do as Doubless does, but for the range, I use those clear plastic tubes with the slip on caps and quick loaders for hunting.

Actually, the last couple years, I've pretty much gone to pellets for hunting. They are expensive for range use, but I'm less prone to spill the reload with cold fingers. Haven't needed the 2nd shot lately anyway.
