My first stalk was in Scotland in 1978 for Fallow & Roe deer, at the time I burrowed my friend rifles, a Mortimer double barrel 2 grove rifle and a Churchill 308, both with open sights. As luck would have it I got my first deer with the 308 but always wished it had been with the muzzle loader.

2028 will be the 50th Anniversary of that event, much has changed since including the law in Scotland that now requires a minimum of:
• 100grains bullet – easy
• 2,450 ft/sec - challenging
• 1,750 foot pounds – easy

The velocity requirement is challenging, has any one any data on modern sabot bullets that might achieve that velocity, I am think of using a Pedersoli Kodiak rifle that are available in .50/.54/.58.

That could be a problem.

Savage MLII some of the other custom smokeless MZ meet that with out trouble.

Is their a powder restriction.

No as long as I meet those restrictions, I can use any powder.

A quick search though the Lyman Black Powder Handbook & Loading Manual by Sam Fadala, Page 161, gave me a 45 Cal 28" barrel 1-48" twist, Hornady Sabot of .357" and 158gr weight. Pyrodex Select gave 2418 fps and 2052 ft/lbs.

Fastest I could see.
