Not quite. I'm running a .54 rifle and .62 smoothbore, both flintlocks. I don't cast for either yet. I have an old timey .600 bag mold from TOTW but I've been buying their custom cast balls so far. I use swaged .530 balls from the majors for the rifle. When I build another gun I've thought the .58 bore would be a good choice as it's as large a bore as a fella can buy swaged balls for if he wants to skip messing with molten lead. If I'm to shoot the fusil much without picking a truly fine lotto number I've got to start casting though... Tell us about your .58; are you using roundballs, Minies, or conicals?

I shoot a Kodiak double .58, and have a Zoli Buffalo Hunter on the way. I have used many, many boxes of Speer and Hornady .570 swaged round balls, properly patched of course, with good accuracy in a number of .58s. Also have used cast REAL bullets (Lee) and minies, depending on the twist rate. Haven't tried the Honrady Great Plains bullet, but plan to, as I don't always have time to cast.

Tbear99,
I shoot REals and round balls in my Kodiak .58"
I preffer 440 gr REALs (460 gn as cast), easy to load, very good accuracy (2-3") at 50 meters and it regulates my rifle. Try some RB but not much, I will have to try again.
MoreBS,
Is there any gun better than the underhammer?
Too bad it was developed too late.

I have two. Both t.c. renegades. One is a caplock and the other is a flinter. I shoot 570 hornady roundball out of both of them. Just ordered a mould but it has'nt come in yet. 58 caliber is a real deer killer.

Underhammers make GREAT Hunting rifles, with interchangeable barrels.

There time line is a little late.

My new .58 cal barrel should arrive next week! Smiler
