Renegade and Soule/Creedmoore sight?

Has anyone mounted a Soule/Creedmoore sight on a TC Renegade? If so what base most closely fits it? I'm worried the angle of the tang is too shallow to keep the staff vertical unless there is some mechanism in place to adjust that. I have never shot them so I can't say.

I know what your saying. I have put a lot of Lyman 57 SML peeps on the Renegades and Hawkens rifles. If you want to span both holes your most likely not going to get it to work like that. The tang has an angle about 2/3 the way up the tang. Most tang mounted sights are straight. The hole spacing is about 2.6 or so. The Lyman 57 SML has a hole spacing of about 1.25 give or take. On the 57 SML peeps you have to drill and tap a hole on the tang. The Hawken I just finished has a different angle on the tang and the sight would not move up and down vertically straight. I built a adapter to fit the tang that straightens that out and gives me more vertical adjustment.
You have a couple of choices I think. You could find one of the old TC vernier tang sights, or you could make an adapter like the one I made and then you could install any tang sight you wanted. I have never shot a vernier tang sight like your talking about on a TC so I am kind of guessing here.
Here are a couple of pictures I hope that you can see it well enough. The adapter is silver under the peep sight. I bent my hammer to make it easier to cock with the peep sight. Ron

It looks like the Lyman sight is the only real option. My brother and I are building a pair of these guns now and his came with the sight installed. I just want to have a rear sight mounted on the barrel and an aperture on the tang. Rifle types don't always make sense.

Have you had any issue with the sight canting forward on the Renegade or just on the Hawken? Do they use different style tangs or am I misunderstanding you?

The Renegades have a 1” barrel and the Hawken 50 and smaller have a 15/16 barrel. So yes the tangs are different. Also on some of the rifles they set the tang deeper than others. Every one is different in little ways. Yes the vertical movement is important. If it does not move vertical you won’t get true ¼” click adjustments.
Have you thought about a ladder sight? If you want the ability to have a “buckhorn” style barrel sight and a adjustable sight the Ladder sight might be the better option. Ron

I bought an old TC Vernier sight they used to make for the Renegade. I'm going to give it a shot first since if it doesn't work Lyman will still be making sights.

Sounds like a good plan. If I were you I would go with a Lyman 17 AML globe sight and a Lee Shavers insert set. Ron

I can't decide if I want the Lyman 17AML with Shavers inserts or if I just want a Shavers front. Since you shoot both what do you feel makes the Shavers front a better sight?

I have the shavers globe with the level on my .458 Renegade. The thing I like about that sight is you can tell if your canting the rifle.
I have shot both and they are both good sights. Ron

For someone to build one of these your looking at about 800 or more for parts and shipping and that is using a used gun as a donor. The cost of putting it together ???? Then if you want the mould, sizer, paper, pattern for the paper. You got to look at 1000 to 1200 dollars maybe more. If you want a new stock that price is going to be a lot more maybe into the 1500 dollar range.
You can do it your self. If you look around you could find a great donor rifle to use for under 200 but you going to have to hunt for it. The barrel is going to be 270 plus shipping from Green mountain. The front sight is a Lyman 17 AML will be about 40 plus shipping. The rear sight is a Lyman 57 SML it will be under 100 plus shipping. The Lee shavers inserts are going to be about 25.
As you can see doing it your self would save labor cost, and finding a great deal on a door stock will help cost a lot. I don’t build these for to sell them. If I did I would feel bad about charging what they would be worth. Ron

T/C makes a peep that mounts right on the Renegade without any modifications. I've been using on for years. The twilight apertures can be used with it and it's a really treamlined package.

The problem with the TC peep is they are NOT field adjustable. By that I mean if you have it set for 100 yards and the deer is at 150. You can't quickly adjust the sight to 150 and make the shot. The Lyman is made to do that. Ron

I use the top of the bead as my aiming point at 100 yards and the center at 150 yards. Works for me.
