What I like about American Pioneer Powder is the fact that it's relatively non-corrosive powder.

I used to shoot Pyrodex black powder substitute and it did very well, but the gun had to be cleaned after it was shot, every day.

Now that I shoot American Pioneer Powder, I can let the gun sit uncleaned. It also doesn't build up the residue in the bore like black powder.

I had consistant problems with the AP "sticks." If I left my b/p rifle loaded overnight, the next day I would get hang fires...everytime. It only took two missed bucks to figure out I had to unload each night. It may have been due to coming in each night from cold temps and keeping my rifle inside the motel room (hunting out of State). It must have condensed moisture from the temp change. I don't leave any gun in my vehicle, especially in a motel parking lot.

I've never shot the sticks, so I can't really comment on them. I found using speedloaders and loose powder worked just fine for me.

But yes, I believe the hangfire problem was from you bringing the gun in and out of the cold. Condensation does form when the steel warms up and that will have an effect on any powder.

most certainly was due to condensation. Ive run many tests on the loose american pioneer and bringing it inside after allowing it to sit in foul weather for 8 to 10 hours each day, i had no problems with condensation.

What type of rifling are you shooting the Sticks out of?

For weather proofing i like to use a finger cot over the bore and if its a break action, i'll take one of those little ear plugs, cut it in half and then put it across the breech plug ( primer end) Close t he rifle and its sealed up from both ends.
