A few days ago i purchased a T/C Encore, as i said in a last post. I have been having trouble with the action not wanting to close after i prime it. If i can get it closed it wont cock, anybody else seen this? Ok #2, i was shooting low at 100 Yards with the rear sight almost max, so i decided to up the powder charge to 150, and now shooting groups of 3 inches or so and back to middle. Thaughts all please! I had the problem with the action not closing when the primer is in place and if it does close not wanting to cock. The problem is that the rim on the 209 x 50 primers are too thick. Even if the action does close the primer is preventing the action from completely locking up so it can cock. I no longer use the 209 x 50 primers, I had mine converted to use small rifle primers in 25 ACP brass, but as I remember I tried different brands of 209 x 50 primers to see if one worked better than the others. You can also slam the action (a little, not ridiculously hard) when you close it, but I never liked doing that to my gun. I doubt you will get very good accuracy with 150 grains of powder. It's too much. Shooting off the bench I would start with 90 grains and shoot a group. Then increase by 10 grains and shoot another group. Keep doing this until your group size starts to increase, then you know you've exceeded the optimum charge for your gun. Most likely the optimum charge will be between 90 and 120 grains. Run cleaning patches through the bore after every shot when shooting from the bench. I use one spit patch followed by one or two dry patches. If you want to use iron sights I would recommend a receiver mounted peep sight. Otherwise a shorter front blade insert will solve your elevation problem. steve nelson

Acrnstlkr, I had a similar issue, and it turned out that the extractor had been bent. I bent it back to original and it quit being an issue closing the gun when primed. I intend to have mine converted as simangus did, but just the breech plug to hold the small rifle primers, not for the 25 ACP cases.... simangus' suggestion on the peep sight is spot on!

ok guys thanks, i did what u said unknown to me at the time. i went from winchester primers to federal and havent had a problem yet! i was doing the slam shut thingy and it would fire once in awhile but while the deer are whatchin this is not easy. i hope not to have probs in the future. i splurged a little and put a scope on it instead of peep . After i figured out the primer deal. 150 grains seem to shoot well with a 250 grain slug out to 250 yards, bad part is it kicks like a mule. well i guess i like it tho went out last day of muzzel, yesterday and shot 3 does! Thanks all again! Freedom is not Free! So thank your Military!

Acrnstlkr, Good shooting on the does. Glad to hear you got it working. One thing occurred to me as I was reading your post: Even now that I have had my Encore converted to the 25 ACP ignition, I have gotten in the habit that when I go hunting, I insert the primer, close the action, and immediately check that the hammer will cock. With the gun pointed in a safe direction, while holding back on the hammer I pull the trigger and let the hammer down slowly. (Use extreme caution, if you let the hammer slip the gun will fire. You knew that, but somebody else reading this may not have that much sense.) Then I hunt with confidence knowing that the hammer will cock if I get a shot opportunity during my hunt. steve nelson
