Looking for a 54 cal in-line that I can scope. I plan to shoot Great Plains bullets pretty much exclusively over Pyrodex. I currently shoot a pair of 54 cal Renegades, but would like an in-line to see if I can get even better consistency shot-to-shot. Also, it's just cool to have a new gun now and then!!! Something cost-wise between the Chinese-made threaded pipe on a stick and a custom made gun that comes with a payment book is what I'm after. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance - and please also see my post about tang sights... need help there too. Mike Si vis pacem... parabellum

I don't think any of the major manufacturers make a .54 inline. The .50 has just about run everything else out of the woods. There are a few holdouts for the .45 but that is about it. You might try some of the less popular makers like Kanke as they are closer to custom manufacturers. The Knight Rolling Block has a barrel that would be very easy to make due to the way they hold it in the action. You could possibly get someone to make a barrel for it. You could also try the Smokeless Muzzleloader barrel makers to see what they could come up with.

I have a Lyman Cougar .54 with a 1-24 twist that shoots conicals extremely well but they are very hard to find because they have'nt been made in quite a few years. Also, I would closely look over anything Kanke makes because he sent me a junk rifle a few years back. With the exception of roundballs, a .50 cal will do everything that a .54 will and you'll have a much better selection of bullets to choose from when you work up a load.

I've got a Remington Model 700 M/L inline in 54. It's really accurate. I switched it over to shotgun primers and it has been death on deer. It wears a 2x7 scope as well. If you're looking for a 54 inline, you could do far worse than the Remington. I haven't checked to see if they still make them, but I would think a used one could be foung on gun broker if nothing else. Mac

I have a MK85 Knight inline that shoots real good in 54 caliber. Check with some of the online auction sites. Swede --------------------------------------------------------- NRA Life Member

Thanks folks, I'll look into those you have suggested. Not a lot on the auction sites now, but things change. Mike Si vis pacem... parabellum

WOW, Checked the Green Mountain site - nice stuff!! Thanks for the link. Just bought a new 243, so I'll have to sell another 40 of swamp land before I can order one. Damn, where's that bailout money when you need it!!!! Mike Si vis pacem... parabellum

Another site to check out is the Markesbury website. http://www.markesbery.com/PolarBear.htm While I don't own a Markesbery, I have played with a couple different rifles and they're pretty sweet. I don't think they're priced too high either, but that I'm not 100% certain of.
