I looked at a Lyman Mustang at Cabelas yesterday and was wondering if anyone tried conicals out of one of these rifles. Is there any issues with these rifles that should stop me from getting one? Thanks for the replies.PaLuke

PALuke, I have one. Only bought it this year, so limited experience. It has a long, creeping trigger pull. The wood finish is a stain on what looks like birch. But it is wood, it's pretty and feels good. I've been shooting out back of the house with 240 grain sabots, so can't say about how conicals will work. We have a short in line season this week, so just wanted to get something that would work for this year. Triple seven gave the best accuracy so far, among pryodex, american pioneer and 777. Only working with 100 grains to start. Nice things are that it's easy to clean, and take apart. Don't seem to get blow back into the action. I got mine because it has a safety at the same place as my other rifles and shotguns, on the tang. I like mine so far. Cabelas will price match. Print the page from MidSouth shooters supply showing their price and description, and take it along. Last I checked Midsouth was about $305, a lot less than cabelas list price. Thanks for the replies. I have a Encore that shoots Buffalo Bullet Co. SSB's very well. I use 100 gr. of 777 and a Rem. Muzzleloader primer. The one thing it won't do is shoot conicals. I tried 3 or 4 different kinds and it just won't do it. I was hoping that the Mustang would shoot conicals. Thanks for the replies. Newville sounds familiar. I live near where the pigeon shoot was. Take care

Newville is located about 35 miles west of Harrisburg, in the Cumberland Valley. I know Hegins, well. Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.
