TR405,

Oregon, where I live, doesn't offer any general season muzzleloading tags, all of them are by draw, and they're hard to get requiring several points.

I have a friend that just returned from a muzzleloader hunt in Colorado, if I remember correctly. He and two others went together and had a great time, one even got an elk. He told me that he had talked with several locals while there and they told him the elk just were not in that area this year like they had been in the past. Based on what the locals told him he is going back next year. Sorry I can't tell you where he went exactly as he didn't tell me.

The same friend told me about the Washington hunt, but he doesn't go without calling someone he knows there to make sure the elk are where he can get at them on public ground.

Muzzleloader elk hunting is addictive just ask my wife, she has taken two that way and loves every minute of the hunt.

tr 405,

I like that do you own a 405? I've been lusting for one, but just can't make myself spend the money. Too many other things I want.

The wife and I were talking last week during the general elk season here, I have enough points to draw a ML tag here and she needs maybe one more so she suggested that I put in for the ML tag next year and she will hunt general season that way we have a good chance of getting two elk and they would be spread out enough to keep the work at a reasonable level. The years we have both taken elk during the general season the work of getting them out and then cut up and in the freezer in such a short time is not fun. Of course the fun ends when they hit the ground. Mine this year, a spike, was only .53 miles from the end of the road by GPS which translates to about .75 on the ground. Not a long way but still a bit of a chore. Oh well, we'll start cutting him up about Saturday or Sunday, it takes me three days doing it by myself. Now that the wife is retired she will be able to help and that should cut the time quite a bit.

I applied for a deer tag in Montana this year but didn't draw and I didn't draw one here either so the elk will be all there is in the freezer this year.

Hope you find more hunts.

Regards,
