I've had the Mortimer target model in 54 caliber for about 10 years. I saw it offered in a Cabelas catalog. By the time I scraped up enough money they weren't available anymore. I ended up ordering one from Dixon's Muzzleloading Shop Chuck Dixon asked me if I was interested in a high grade Mortimer that was done making the rounds of the trade shows. I declined, as it was double the price of the regular model and I wanted it for Pennsylvania's muzzleloading season, not to just hang over the living room fireplace. 90 grains of FFg under a .020 patched round ball shoot 2 inch 100 yard groups using the peep sight. I used the 2 leaf rear sight to take a whitetail doe a few years ago. The peep isn't legal in the primative hunting season. I got great satisfaction in that kill as I also cast the ball using a Lee mold. BTW, it is my only muzzleloading rifle.

I have only had one problem with the lock. The frizzen pivot pin fell out while sighting in at my home range. Dixon's replaced it for free.

I like its shotgun butt plate, cheekpiece, checkering, color cased lock, brown color bluing, peep sight, sling swivels, and the fact that it is the epitome of flintlock design. I think it is well made and has classy styling. I'm glad I bought it.

I'll be using it this coming Saturday for deer season.
