Best rate of twist?

I'm thinking of buying another smokeless ML and was wondering what everyone feels would be the best twist rate if 250grs to 300grs bullets only were to be used. My Savage has a 1 in 24 and shoots 300grs like gangbusters, but is only average with the 250grs. Given the high velocities these guns produce, I'm thinking something like a 1 in 28 might be a better compromise. Any thoughts appreciated.
