Pretty bad writing.

Your quote makes it sound like she tied the guy up, tortured, and killed him.

She was the one tortured and beaten and somehow fought her way through it.

She got her gun from under a pillow and then engaged in a gunfight with the perpetrator, she hit him 2 times, he hit her 10 times.

Her disabled son (who was there) 10 hours later gave her the phone and help arrived.

Obviously a tough and tenacious lady.

Pretty bad reading, the woman was obviously the subject in that sentence, and the one threatened, hit, handcuffed and shot.

Good for her and good riddance. She saved the taxpayers a lot of money and wish her a rapid recovery.
