I am running for the NRA Board of Directors. While my name has been submitted to Nominating Committee and I have existing directors pushing my candidacy, I don't want to chance not being on the ballot. Thus, I am also soliciting signatures of voting members so that I can be on the ballot by petition. My blogging on the NRA and its issues has attracted quite a bit of attention. Indeed, the NY Attorney General's Office brought it up during the bench phase of the recent trial when questioning NRA Secretary John Frazer. If I have been critical of the NRA it is because I want it to return to its past glory with regard to training, competition, and especially advocacy for gun rights. I decided it was time for me to put up or shut up so here I am running for the Board. If you are a voting member of the NRA, I need your signature on my petition. A voting member is any level of Life Member plus any Annual Member who has 5 or more years of unbroken, continuous membership. I have until October 8, 2024 to submit 398 valid signatures to the NRA in order to get on the ballot. I think I'm off to a good start as many signatures have come in over the past two days. You can find my petition online at https://onlygunsandmoney.com/2...rd-of-directors.html I cannot take scanned and emailed petitions so you will need to print it out and return it to me. Email me at jpr9954 At Gmail Dot Com for my mailing address. I am appreciative of any and all help from my fellow African hunters.

I'm sure we're all happy to John, but what's the plan? What's your plan? I'm a life member and it looks to me like Wayne got swept under the rug. My monthly magazine has so to speak turned a new page! But there's no mention of specifically which pages have been turned. I use to donate regularly and haven't at all in at least 15 years,.... You came to us, not vis versa so what's the plan? What's your plan?

“I received an email today from the Everytown Victory Fund which is their PAC. They are now have formed a coalition with the Planned Parenthood Votes PAC to produce a pro-Kamala, anti-Trump online advertisement. The ad touts how Kamala is pro-abortion and pro-gun control. This is juxtaposed against Trump on his appointments to the Supreme Court and speaking about his record on gun rights.” The above is apparently from the NRA???

No, no, no. That is a quote from a blog post I did this morning pointing out how the anti-gun forces are joining with the pro-abortion forces to push Kamala Harris as their candidate for US President. It had nothing to do with the NRA. I have written articles about 2A litigation, hunting, bourbon, wildlife conservation, and many other things over the years. In recent years the issues with the NRA and how it impacts the fight for gun rights has been a major focus.

In the 2024 Board election, four reform candidates who got on the ballot by petition won their seats. This was the first time that many petition candidates had won. More importantly, they were three out of the five top vote getters and the other candidate came in 15th. Two former presidents who were on the ballot lost their seats. At the May board meeting, reform elements were able to elect the 1st and 2nd VPs, the CEO/EVP, and take a 5-4 majority of the Nominating Committee. Unfortunately, the old guard who had looked away did win the president's slot. Reform elements on the board are in a bare majority and there are many members who could go either way. The anti-reform element who ignored their fiduciary duties and looked the other way when Wayne and company plundered the NRA still hold many important board positions. They need to go. Either the NRA president removes them from these positions or Judge Cohen in the NY court will do it. Reformer elements on the board are running up to 20 candidates to push out the old guard. I am one of those 20 and I have their support. As to what I'd like to see sooner than later, here is a list. The Brewer law firm is fired. The NRA has spent over $200 million on them with the only thing to show for it is that they were not dissolved and they didn't get a special monitor imposed on them. Imagine what could be done in terms of securing gun rights with a fraction of that money. The Board needs to be downsized. A 76 member board will never be effective. I would propose a Board of Directors of no more than 20-25 directors. Assisting it would be a Board of Advisors or Board of Visitors or whatever you want to call it. They would not run the organization but be there to support it by fundraising etc. This is where the celebrities on the existing Board should have been placed. The NRA needs to cooperate with other 2A groups such as the Second Amendment Foundation, the Gun Owners of America, and the Firearms Policy Coalition as well as the many non-NRA state groups on litigation. The pooling of resources will lead to more cases and more good results. Along those same lines, the NRA needs to get rid of the mindset that if they didn't conceive of something that it can't be worth anything. Permitless concealed carry was about to move forward in North Carolina until the NRA objected at the 11th hour. They had not testified for or against the bill nor had they participated in the drafting of it. The training department needs to be reinvigorated and re-emphasized. No other organization has as many certified trainers as the NRA. State laws in most states actually refer to NRA training as a pre-qualification for providing concealed carry permit classes. The NRA is starting to reach out to hunters again but more could be done. The most critical issue facing the NRA are finances or the lack thereof. None of the rest matters until we can get the financial house in order. I spent 25 years as a financial planner with my CFP and a masters degree in project management. Shoring up the finances will take a concerted effort to cut out the dead wood and at the same time give members and potential members a reason to invest their hard earned monies in the organization again. The sweetheart deals with vendors authorized by LaPierre need to be terminated and new, more cost effective ones found. The one other thing that needs to be done is for the Board, the executives, and the staff to listen to the members. They have been ignored other than to be exhorted to donate while Wayne and his pack of grifters flew in private jets here, there, and everywhere. What do you think the NRA needs to do to right its ship?
