PARIS — Just three days after an Islamist stabbed a French teacher to death, an already fierce discussion on immigration in France has become a lot more heated.

The killing last Friday of Dominique Bernard, a high school teacher in Arras, has emotionally charged an ongoing polemic about security and migration as the country gears up to vote on a long-awaited immigration bill.

The attacker, a Russian national of Chechen origin named Mohamed Mogouchkov, is said to have shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the attack. His family narrowly avoided being returned to their native Ingushetia, a region near Chechnya, in 2014. The father of the family was deported some years later for links to Islamist extremism, while the eldest son is imprisoned in France for being involved in terrorist attack preparation.


They live amongst us.

France has banned pro Palestinian demos and marches, looks like the UK has done the same.

I was at Uni with a Palestinian guy, he was nice enough but felt very strongly about the way Israel manages the situation. He would curse and grumble but I could never see him attacking anyone.

The more recent immigrants might be a different story.

This was 30 years ago now.

If you are referring to the gangs and cartel terrorists and nut jobs you already have many many tens of thousands of them, both home grown and imported.

How many times has there been a terror event in France, there has been a popular groundswell of outrage against all the free immigration into France, a report of a “rise of fascism in France” per the media types, … and they elect yet another leftist?

That the French (and indeed most EU) government admits to interfering with internal politics under the guise of stopping fascism, one wonders how free the elections really are.

I don’t see any near term changes in France.

Like the US, they are overtly comfortable enough that overwhelming political angst for a paradigm shift isn’t there.
