Only problem with your analogy is that it wasn’t used as a justification to start the war.

Russia had begun offensive operations 6-7 months before.

You could call it an act of warfare on noncombatant economic infrastructure.

It could be seen as a violation of laws of n a number of neutral nations.

It’s not some kind of conspiracy to start combat operations.

I don't see anything in that story that offers any proof, just more allegations. Could just as easily be Russian intelligence trying to get revenge on this Colonel for trying to get their pilot to defect with his helicopter.

He has a very selective view of history. If you want to justify what Putin is doing by arguing that Russia used to own Ukraine or big chunks of it why not go further back to when Kiev owned big chunks of Russia.

Its like most of our brighter civil servants. They are surrounded by careerists and become convinced of their intellectual superiority and infallibility. Then the unintended consequences kick in well after the decision... and in most cases were easily foreseen.

We had no plan to deal with success in either of the gulf wars.

In the liberation of Kuwait, no one thought that Iraq would fall apart that quickly and they had no plan for stage 2- so when the troops are running up the road to Bagdad and our allies get squirrelly, we just shut down.

Neither war had a plan or idea about what to do with the POW's...

That's aside from the arguments about whether or not to go to war.
